saying that a pint of beer had two units of alcohol. In recent years the number of units of alcohol has started appearing on bottles of alcoholic drink. If you were able to buy 500 mL of 4.2% beer, you would know that you were buying 2.1 units of alcohol. However, a [UK] pint is a little more than 500 mL, so an opportunity for health warning has been lost.

Draught beer, ie those sold in pints in UK pubs, tend to have lower alcohol than bottled beer - most being 4% or less. The range is usually 3.5% to 5.5%.

The most dangerous aspect to "units" in the UK is the notion that "I can have 2 pints of beer and drive" , when this is actually based on beer with a lower alcohol amount. It's a similar situation to when people see the speed limit sign of, say, 60mph meaning "drive at 60" rather than "60 is the absolute maximum"
