I am writing to ascertain whether you might be interested in participating in a forum on controversial metric topics that cannot be aired in METRIC TODAY.

I know of no metric topics that cannot be aired in "Metric Today", except perhaps those that would oppose metrication entirely.

The first matter on which I would like to solicit opinions concerns a recent issue of METRIC TODAY which intimated that although USMA is solidly behind metric instruction in K-12, there is some difference of opinion as to whether inch-pound units should also be taught.

I have read nothing in "Metric Today" that would indicate that the US Metric Assn. favors teaching of the old inch-pound units. Undoubtably, there are some individuals outside of the association (and perhaps a few inside) that feel that this would be desirable during a transition period However, this is certainly not my opinion nor that of most of the members I know.

I'd be happy to be a part of a discussion of this matter but don't know why a new forum would be necessary. It could be done through the US Metric Association listserver (through which I received your message).
