I have a wild kind of conclusion for all of this---let encourage the people of the U.S. to learn how SI works! Let's learn to move that handy, dancing decimal point and apply the right prefix. I think we should all be fluent in the concept of the decimal metric system, so it can be said that we never met a multiple we didn't like (grin). For example, we should be able to read 175 cm as 1750 mm by inspection, just as we read "$0.25" as twenty-five cents without thinking about it.
