I've been trying to convince Jeppesen (a provider of aeronautical charts) to
include a ratio in their map scales which at present are only in
inches/nautical mile.
This is the reply I got from their office in Germany.I've written back, but
would appreciate input from others on this list for good arguments to make
or other references.

When I understood your request correctly, you are looking for equivalent
information to the scale indicated on our enroute, area and terminal
charts
e.g. 1"=20NM / 1:1.472.441 .
As you can see it is not very helpful to show the scale in both values as
the value in metric version would give a rough information only.
Jeppesen decided many years ago to create the charts on Inches equivalent
to Nautical Miles scale as these values are well known and accepted by the
majority of our customers.
We did several charts with the metric scale dealing with the former
Eastern
European and Soviet Union States in the past, but nearly fifteen years ago
we changed all our enroute, area and terminal procedure charts to the
scale
given in inches equivalent to the nautical miles.
