Subject: [USMA:38806] Origin of the idea of prefixes
Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2007 14:02:10 +1000

Dear All,

I have just been looking at the excellent page on prefixes at
http://lamar.colostate.edu/~hillger/si-prefixes.html when it occurred to me
that I have never been clear in my mind as to who actually originated the
idea of prefixes.

I know that the original prefixes had a pattern of being derived from Latin
or from Greek and that the pattern has subsequently broken down, but this
does not help with who it was who devised the prefix concept initially.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Cheers,

Pat Naughtin
