Carlton,
There is a continuous "price war" in the UK over short haul flights to
Europe.
The airlines strip down everything to give you the best price possible but
with "no frills".
I think it's an advantage - for instance - the half-hour trip to Amsterdam
is extemely cheap and as long as you don't want a snack or a beer on the
plane then it's great value.
A couple of years ago this "price war" peaked with some carriers offering
flights for 99p !

The carriers that nickel-and-dime their passengers seem to be the bad ones.

I sent this message to a forum on ferries. Guess: what does the rip off 8
pound sandwich in the message mean? One that weighs 8 lbs or does it cost 8
pounds sterling?
The unnamed airline is Ryanair.
"I just read on an airline user's forum, that a certain Irish low-cost
airline charges 8 pounds for a 'club sandwich'. A tiny tin (150 cm3) of
coke
will set you back at least a pound. Although 5.25 pounds for a piece of
cheese cake and coffee on a DFDS-ship to Norway is a bit steep to us, it is
normal Norwegian pricing. I have to say that the portion of cheesecake was
generous and they were not stingy with the coffee either. But I would never
buy a rip off 8 pound sandwich and a rip off 150 cm3 tin of coke from a
so-called low cost airline.

On the other Irish airline, Aer Lingus, you have to pay for your
refreshments on board as well, but their prices are reasonable, I buy their
products on board and I like that airline anyway. In about 2 weeks I will
board one of their planes again."
