New Jersey's own regulations now permit metric-only labeling on all
products. They will not be enforcing the FPLA requirement for dual-units
according to the Attorney General's Office.
The FPLA Amendment was sent to the Commerce Department from NIST with its
current legislative proposals. To date we have not heard anything back from
Commerce on whether or not they will send it to the White House for
inclusion in the Administration's legislative package for the next session
of Congress.
Everyone seems to be waiting on the EU to publish their proposal on the
their Metric-Only Deadline. Perhaps after that is published in July
(tentatively) it will break things loose here in the U.S.

Subject: Metric-Only Labeling
Ken,
Paul Trusten, writing to the USMA list, reports that New Jersey now permits
metric-only labeling on "all packaged goods."
Does this mean that NJ is no longer enforcing the current FPLA which
requires both metric and non-metric labels on certain but not all products?
What is the status of the amendment to the FPLA to permit metric-only labels
on all consumer products in all states?
Gene Mechtly.
