Thank you for this opportunity to clarify a common error I have noticed
in posts about the temperature scale that is a part of the International
System of Units (the modern metric system). The name of this scale is
spelled "Celsius," not "Celcius." The scale was named after the Swedish
astronomer Anders Celsius, who in 1742, was the first to propose a
decimalized temperature scale related to the freezing point and boiling
point of water.
It should also be noted that the name of this scale is Celsius, not
"centigrade." Some people persist in using the name "centigrade" in
connection with it, but this term has been obsolete for many years.
