Decades ago VW ran a magazine ad promoting the idea that a VW Bug was
more efficient than a human body in terms of moving a given weight a
certain distance. The idea was that if you moved the weight--OK
mass--by yourself it would consume more energy than if you put it in the
car and drove it there. I don't recall if they also considered the fuel
cost of moving the car itself. Of course, the result was that the car
was the better choice and the reader should run out and buy one. And I
don't recall if the human mover had to move the weight on his back, on a
bike, a wheelbarrow, or what.
