As an addendum, if you watch the google maps promo video for that
triangulation, what they call "Blue Dot", they only use meters in that
video as well. No translation, and the video went out to millions of
people.

I just got a new Blackberry and downloaded Google maps to the device.
When you open google maps the phone will determine your position from
triangulation on nearby cell towers, when it does this there will be a
message describing the accuracy in meters only. Depending on the
number of cell towers, the accuracy could be within 5 meters, 1700
meters or 5000 meters, these are the 3 numbers I've seen depending
where I am, which in my case were downtown LA, Boeing field in Seattle
and Glenwood Springs Colorado. No other unit is given and I did not
choose metric in this case. The longer you wait, the more accurate the
position gets. Really an amazing bit of technology. I'm going to get a
bluetooth GPS reciever and then I'll have a moving map display
wherever I am, and very accurate map positon!
Is'nt technology wonderful!
