The method of estimating height in meters [USMA:40564] rounded to two decimal places (that end with either a '0' or a '5' ) also suggests a method for estimating body mass.
A practical rule for estimating body mass might include the following:1 round values in kilograms to the nearest one's place ending in a '0' or a '5'.
An additional rule for an optional method of estimating body mass in customary pounds_US might be:
2 round values in pounds_US to the nearest ten's place.Estimates (or approximations) of body mass are used on drivers licenses/IDs in many states. As this information is typically self- reported, an approximate value for body mass is practical for purposes of general identification.
If a scale value is rounded to the nearest '0' or '5' kilogram, then the estimate will be within 2.5 kg of the scale value.
If a scale value is rounded to the nearest 10 pounds, then the estimate will be within 5 pounds of the scale value.
Some uses of information about body-mass might call for more precise values. The following table (raw data, various comparisons) shows how much the above rules for estimating body mass might differ from a scale value. (Because text with tab-delimited columns probably doesn't line up nicely in an e mail post, an example of an interpretation of the data follows).

The differences in estimation among scale values of body mass in terms of pound or kilogram vary as a function of how close the approximate value is to the scale value, and are thus different for different scale values. If more precision than the kilogram is needed, then the gram (or thousandth of a kilogram) is more precise of a scale than the customary pound and ounce.
