I receive a daily technical newsletter about Flat Panel Displays 
(displaydaily.com), which covers a variety of related topics and manufacturers 
world-wide. Sadly, even though this publication spends a huge amount of 
coverage on large FPDs, they seem to use inches almost exclusively for screen 
size (e.g., 42", 46"). 

They do use metric in many other areas, such as square meters of glass used, 
but not in diagonal screen size. 

BTW, I agree with Bill's position on centimeters and millimeters. I have a 115 
cm TV, and I am 170 cm tall. But we never use centimeters in technical work.

Agreed that mm for screen size would be better. I wish they would go to 
metric. Seeing screens and metric sizes next to each other in stores would 
be a great learning tool. 
I saw a screen size in Costco of 40" and thought it was a nice round 
number for the meter. cm is too cumbersome whereas mm avoid conversion and 
adds only one digit whereas cm requires a decimal point for refinement.
