As many of you know, 48 states and all U.S. territories have adopted the
Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulation's (UPLR) metric-only labeling option.
This option allows certain products not regulated by federal law to be labeled
in metric units only, at the option of the manufacturer. Only New York and
Alabama have not yet adopted this option. If we can achieve unanimity among
U.S. jurisdictions, the case for a similar amendment to the federal law (Fair
Packaging and Labeling Act, or FPLA) would be extremely strong.

The New York department that would make this decision tells me it is actively
considering adoption, but has not yet done so. There's no harm in giving them
a push. New York state has a new governor, David Paterson, who took over upon
the recent resignation of former governor Elliot Spitzer. I have already
written to Gov. Paterson urging him to advance this UPLR provision in Albany.
If you, especially those residing in New York State, would like to join me in
this effort, you can write to the governor at http://161.11.121.121/govemail.

Thanking you SI-ncerely in advance for your help,
