In AprilI wrote the following to Hemisphere magazine, the inflight magazien
for Untied Airlines.
For an airline with an international clientèle I'm always amazed and annoyed
by the lack of SI metric units in your magazine, even when writing about
places and things that were obviously metric in the first place. In the
latest issue Zurich and 3perfect days in Tokyo come to mind. People use
metric or not metric, please provide both or leave the original unit as is.

Below is the reply I received recently
Hello, Mr. Payne,
We wanted to let you know we appreciate your letter last month to
Hemispheres regarding the metric system. Over the past few years, we've
been
a little lax about including metric equivalents to the U.S. customary
system, and your letter has prompted us to return to that policy, set a
standard style for it, and be more careful with it. It's indeed important,
as you say, to include metrics for an international readership.
Many thanks for taking the time to write.
