The opportunity exists to report flood levels in the International System of Units (SI).
During the past few days, flood levels have been reported in the news in feet and tenths (15' & 17.4' etc') and not in inches. Now is the time to report river & flood levels and sea levels in the SI. Levels should be reported in two ways: meters and tenths or in millimeters depending on need or context; for example, 3.4 m or 3400 mm. Observations definitely should be taken in millimeters. Centimeters should NOT be used. The SI would make understanding and use very easy. Stan Doore
