Fareed Zakaria has written a book, "The Post-American World" from which
excerpts were included in the May 12, 2008 issue of Newsweek--which should
still be on newsstands. Fareed Zakaria, an American citizen originally from
India, has a major column in each issue of Newsweek. He has been a frequent
counsel to government officials and often appears on news program panels such
as Sunday morning news shows and the PBS Lehrer News Hour.

Within the excerpt in the second column on page 31 he writes, "To bring others
into this world, the United States needs to make its own commitment to the
(world economic) system clear. So far, "America has been able to have it both
ways. It is the global rule-maker but doesn't always play by the rules. And
forget about standards created by others. Only three countries in the world
don't use the metric system--Liberia, Myanmar, and the United States. For
America to continue to lead the world, we will have to first join it."
