This 2.5 minute video is an absolute gem - please spread it widely.

I was happy to send this to a friend or two and I decided to use SI in telling him about it. So I referred to the clip as "This 150 second video ..." instead of "this 2.5 minute video.

I'm of the mind that minutes are unnecessary and can be replaced by seconds, or for some times, by kiloseconds.

I think many of us would already be comfortable with seconds (in place of minutes) for shorter intervals. In recent Stanley Cup hockey games the announcers frequently note the time remaining min the game (or a period) is seconds even though it is greater than one minute. (I can recall specifically hearing references to 90 s, 100 s and 150 s left to go.

I agree that kiloseconds for longer time intervals might take some getting used to, but not impossible. An hour is just 3.6 ks long, so one kilosecond is a good part of an hour but not much more than a quarter of an hour. Beyond 3 or 4 kiloseconds, one would probably still use hours or hours plus fractions of an hour like quarters and halves (but not much finer divisions).
