Battery parameters; energy stored, mass, and volume are *all three* important 
determinants of electric vehicle range and economy.  The "energy mass density" 
(J/kg) and "energy volume density" (J/m^3) limit the range, economy and cargo 
space of electric vehicles.

Lead-acid batteries, for example, are much inferior in both J/kg and J/m^3 than 
the lithium-ion batteries currently under development and beginning to be 
employed.  e.g. Read about the Tesla, providing excellent performance in 
acceleration and range, but still very expensive, 100 + k$.
