Paul: These days, I see references to "the elephant in the room" frequently and, of the two, it's the one I use myself. The "800 pound gorilla" metaphor is quite rare, by comparison. Besides, when one refers to an elephant, stating its mass is redundant. That makes the metaphor much more concise. Bill _____
