Not only do they not leave the space between the number and the symbol, but
their use of "-" and "+" leaves something to be desired - the text 

   "Women -49kg Preliminary Round of 16"

suggests something to do with negative mass, though I suppose that it is a
slap-dash way of writing "less than".
