There has been a concentrated effort by the UKMA and newspapers like The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian and the Independent tend to use "km/h". However rags like The Sun and The Daily Mirror tend to use "kph" (if they use kilometers per hour at all) - the unit of measure that they are most concerned about is the size of their picture-girl's breasts.
I have never seen "kph" on a British speedometer - they all have "mph" as their primary scale and "km/h" as their secondary scale. _____ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Paul Trusten Sent: 02 September 2008 17:06 To: U.S. Metric Association Cc: U.S. Metric Association Subject: [USMA:41646] RE: AP's "kph" To those subscribers outside the U.S.: which construction is used commonly by your local media, "kph" or "km/h?" Thus, they (the editors) should be made aware of their faults. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [USMA:41643] AP's "kph" From: Harry Wyeth <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Tue, September 02, 2008 6:02 am To: "U.S. Metric Association" <[email protected]> Does anyone know an effective way to get the AP to start using km/h rather than kph? The online news constantly tells about the various hurricane wind forces as mph with a following kph in parens. Maybe it is better than nothing. HARRY WYETH
