Dear All,

The basic standard cook book in Australian schools is called, Cookery the Australian Way. This book has been fully metric since 1974. You can find details of this book from the publisher at http://www.macmillandigital.com.au/BookStore/pagedisplay.do?genre=book&pub=macaus&id=9781420225198

Cookery the Australian Way was so successful as a practical cook book in schools that most students in cookery classes kept their school book with them when they went home and have cooked from it ever since. My wife, Wendy Pomroy, who is a keen cook and a cooking writer has two copies of Cookery the Australian Way beginning with the second edition (January 1974), which was the first all metric edition, and also a more modern expanded edition. Every edition since 1974 has been fully metric and this book has had a major influence on all metric cooking in Australia.

In the meantime, you might like to read an article that Wendy and I wrote a few years ago. It is called, Metric Cooking with Confidence, and you can download it from http://www.metricationmatters.com/docs/MetricCookingWithConfidence.pdf

Metric Cooking with Confidence explains the hows, whys, and wherefores, of cooking measurements of all kinds, but with a specific preference for metric measures. This is a short (7 pages), but thorough description that covers all of the measuring issues you will meet in a modern kitchen.

Cheers,

Pat Naughtin
