Mark,

There are many different styles of screws that you could choose from.  There
are slotted pan head, phillips pan head, Allen head, hex head, and others.

By 3 mm I believe you mean M3.  You also need to specify the screw thread
pitch, the standard being M3 x 0.5 mm.  In addition to the pitch, you need also
to specify the length.

If you live in the US, then try a local hardware store or DIY store.  If they
don't have the right combination of diameter and length then try a company like
McMaster-Carr.

Subject: [USMA:43252] I need a screw for a music bos

My son bought me the works of a music box from France "A Vie en Rose"
on his honeymoon. I want to install it in a wooden tea box for
resonance. I went to Motion Industries in Lancaster, CA and asked
them. They referred me to Fastenal, who did not have that small
screws, but the man was helpful and had a thread gauge that appears to
be 3mm (measuring the ID's). He suggested that I could go to a hobby
shop. I am going to San Fernando Valley today, hoping I can find the
place to buy three screws. Would anybody have any suggestions where I
can find them?
