Certainly don't disagree with that, Remek. If I understand it, this is another one of those sad cases where agency leadership at one time could have acted without further authorization, but conversion was "voluntary", so why incur the expense and some transitory public grumbling.
For the sake of history, it would be interesting to know who really sabotaged US metric conversion by inserting the "voluntary" provision in the 1975 act. Does anyone know? I think I read something, perhaps on the USMA website, saying that the exact origin of that fateful last-minute revision is unknown. From: Remek Kocz Sent: 03/18/2009 7:28 PM ...
