Pat,

Can you provide a web link to the article? The picture is unclear and the text is unreadable. Way too small.

Dear Jerry,

Sorry, not possible.

I tried to find it but it does not seem to be available.

Subject: [USMA:44041] Obama vegetable garden

Dear All,

If you examine this article from yesterdays copy of the Melbourne newspaper, The Age, closely you will see that the scale for the 102 square metre Obama vegetable garden is in metres. Look for the scale near Michelle Obama's right shoulder. I suspect that this is the original drawing as the two metre scale is in line with the lines of the garden beds. You will also see in the text of the article reference to the size of the vegetable garden as 102 square metres.

<ObamaGarden.jpg>

The 102 square metre size for the vegetable garden looks like one of those multiple conversions where the original design for 100 square metres was converted to 119.599005 square yards, that was then rounded to 120 square yards; the 120 square yards was then (somehow or other from 100.335283 square metres) converted and rounded to 102 square yards. The New York Times regarded this as all too hard. They deleted the reference to metres on the plan of the garden, and then converted the 100 square metres to 1,100-square-foot. Seehttp://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/20/dining/20garden.html where you will have to enlarge the garden plan to see the scale now written above and separate from the garden plan as 8 feet..
