One wonders then who has the better chance to survive into the future?  Have we
become like the Roman Empire, so big and full of ourselves.  Look what happened
to them.  We are heading down the same path.

Germans are quite smart. To save energy, the Berlin subway trains have
individual controls on their doors. When a train arrives at your stop, you
press a button to open the door yourself. In U.S. trains I have ridden, all of
the train's doors open at the same time. Also, recycling in Germany is
universal; all public trash receptacles are divided into three compartments for
paper, glass, and packaging. On some narrow streets in Berlin, vehicles are
required to pull up two wheels over the curb, thus increasing parking
availability and maintaining open passage on the street. Taxis are powered by
natural gas.
