How would funding scientific research help the metrication effort?  Since 
Science is already metric, there would be no need to spend money on something 
already accomplished.

President Obama has pledged that as a nation, we should target 3% of GDP toward 
scientific research. This combined with private-sector spending on R & D means 
that a SIGNIFICANT sector of the US economy will be exposed to metric usage on 
a daily basis at work.

This is an excellent opportunity to contact some of the agencies such as the 
NSF and NIST listed here in this article stressing the importance of metric in 
the sciences.
