Stan:

I have the 2002 Edition. (By the way, it's correctly called the Associated
Press Stylebook, not Guidebook.)

I used to have an online subscription but I let it lapse.

Under metric, after noting an exception for mm, in the case of film (e.g.,
35 mm) and weapons (e.g., 105 mm cannon), it says that metric units should
be spelled out in the first instance, only using "abbreviations" (sic) for
subsequent instances.

They're about to publish the 2009 Edition, orderable for $18.95 online at
http://apstylebook.com/. The initial page has an illustration of the 2008
Edition (sold out), with an Order Now link that will take you to the full
range.

Another problem with an editor who "corrected" my manuscript by making all
GW into gigawatt-hours. Why? I quote:

The Associated Press guidebook, which we follow, indicates that GW should
not be abbreviated, and instead be spelled out as gigawatt-hours.

I am trying to get a copy of the AP guidebook or get an independent
confirmation of that W = Wh according to API. What a mess that Wh causes.
