Madam Elizabeth/Paul, sir:May I intervene and support views in this letter that
it shall be more harmful than *any inherent gain, if felt* that State of
Arizona would be leading rest of America in US commitment for adoption of
"preferred system of measurement" and to fall in line with rest of the world
that 200-years of 'stand down' has ONLY added to costs, in accepting Le Systeme
Internationale d'Unites (SI). Perhaps today's leadership in Metrication shall
be gainfully used to get the upper hand for United States in "resolving the
Calendar Question" for ever - Metrication/Decimalisation of Time of the HOUR in
relation to Arc-Angle, using simplistic calendar: Mere shifting of July 31st to
February 29th and devise Leap Weeks by mere 'Divide six(6) Plan' and get the
best of Mean Year value, replacing Leap Days on *div.4/skip100/accept400* plan
to more appropriate *div.4/skip128* that give: MY=(365+31/128) =365.2421875
days. I think it now has come to differentiate between *Science, religion &
Myth*: where we stand!Brij Bhushan Vij

Subject: [USMA:45176] USMA letter to AZ Governor Brewer
Date: Mon, 1 Jun 2009 20:46:23 -0500

The Honorable Jan Brewer
Governor of Arizona
1700 West
Washington
Phoenix, AZ 85007

Dear Governor Brewer,

Thank you for reaching the decision to postpone action on replacing the
signs along a section of Interstate Highway 19 that currently display units of
the metric system of measurement.

If you decide to maintain the metric signs permanently, such a move would
be in agreement with Congress, which has the power to fix the standard of
weights and measures for the Nation. In 1988, Congress passed the Omnibus Trade
and Competitiveness Act, declaring that the metric system is the "preferred
system of measurement" for U.S. trade and commerce. Apparently, it is also
the measurement system of choice for some I-19 Arizona merchants, who would
be adversely affected in trade and commerce if they had to revise their
29-year-old marketing practices to accommodate a possible step backward from
metric.

Despite Congressional urgings, the U.S. remains the only major nation
without a plan to change over to the simple, decimal metric system as the
country's single, everyday measurement standard. This makes the State of Arizona
a leader in its efforts along I-19. I urge you to continue pointing the way to
a
better infrastructure for America.

Sincerely,
