By the way, is Independence Day also called 'Flag Day'? I heard a very
funny radio monologue recently about Flag Day in Lake Wobegon where
Garrison Keillor described a Flag Day where the whole town wore red,
white or blue caps to form into a flag shape in the town square.
Unfortunately, as everyone was occupied at the time, it was a major
achievement for every person – one at a time – to climb to the top of
the tallest building to see the effect from above! It took hours. I'm
still laughing when I think of this scene.
Flag Day is June 14. (I had to check that, as July 14 is Bastille Day, which
is more prominent in my mind.)
Appleton, WI has a HUGE parade on the Saturday before Flag Day - think at
least two hours worth with flags all over the place.
