Congratulations! Julia's a big (and beautiful) one. My two sons were Evan
(1984, 3690 g) and Jeffrey (1986, 4390 g). Kaiser in San Francisco did not
give lb/oz measurements even then unless you asked (most parents did, I
didn't) and to this day I have no idea what the two of them were in colonial
measure. However, as they were being born (especially Jeffrey), my wife did
a fine job of letting me know continuously and forthrightly how big they
were.

A birth announcement for my new daughter. With our son, we had metric +
English, but this time we're going hardcore (even though many of my friends
and relatives will shrug at the numbers).

It was interesting to see everything done in metric first in the hospital,
including baby's measurements, my wife's and baby's temperature, etc. When
the nurse said to my wife "your temperature is 37" I wondered how many
Americans would be confused or alarmed (my wife is Brazilian and
understood).
