I am attaching a table that shows  that the descendants of the inventors of the 
metric system are also very smart. They (the French) have avoided the expense 
of the time and labor the US has been "throwing into the wind." Among all 
industrialized nations, they alone were able to cut hydrocarbon consumption 
(notice the negative sign in the Growth column). Compare that wisdom with their 
neighbors' to the north and east - they had committed themselves to shutting 
down their nuclear power plants (stations). 

In the table (the values are both in J/y and in W) please pardon the 
UNsignifican digits. I still have not been able to set my Excel to show only 
significant digits. Changing the redundant digits to 0s by hand is too much 
work for the purpose of this posting.

While at this, I understand not everyone was successful in opening the link 
supplied earlier for the paper on renewable energy (all values in SI). Below is
