I've just finished reading an old (1988) murder mystery by Jonathan Kellerman, which I got from our local library. It's called _The Butcher's Theater_ and it's entirely in metric, with colloquial phrasing. The story takes place almost entirely in Israel. Human heights are given as, for example, "a meter eight" (i.e., 1.8 m). Short distances are in meters and longer ones in kilometers -- and thankfully not stated as "klicks"! Volumes are given in liters. Masses are in kilograms, but put as "kilos" in the book reflecting common colloquial speech. Weather conditions are described but no temperatures are given. If they had been I'm confident they would have been in degrees Celsius.

There was only one glitch that I caught. "Big plastic" water jugs are described -- "they hold eight liters each, weigh about thirty kilos". They must use heavy water in Israel. Or extremely heavy plastic jugs.

It was very enjoyable to read a book entirely devoid of non-metric units. I hope to come across another Kellerman novel like this.
