Stan & all:

It was thoughtful of you to circulate USMA 46325, promoting SI as the
'technical language' among US engineering community. I may not contribute much
to steam cars/engines as you know my area of study has been Reform of Gregorian
calendar.

As an USMA member, you have some inputs that I placed for discussions at my
Home Page. Format of my proposed calendar is placed at:

Subject: [USMA:46325] Steam and SI
Date: Tue, 29 Dec 2009 10:06:12 -0500

The Steam Automobile Club of America (SACA) just published an article of mine
that might be of interest to the metric community. Although it is about a steam
car (I can hardly think of a more I-P product than steam engines!) it also
traces the progress of the project from the I-P units specification thru the
change to SI units midway in the project when it was so directed by the Dep't
of Energy in 1973. Thus the article starts I-P but ends SI.

As I recall, when the edict for SI came about, the SES company never consider
to ask for more money to justify the "conversion." A small booklet that
described SI was give to all pertinent personnel; some read it, some not but
all learned to report data and do calculations in SI from one monthly report to
the next one. A weeks notice? Maybe a month.

Happy New Year to all.
