Dear All,

As I see myself as a faraway foreign friend of the USA, this article: http://tomdispatch.com/post/175187/tomgram%3A_orville_schell%2C_what_doesn%27t_work_in_america/#more disturbed me so deeply that I was hesitant to share this reference with you.

Many of the issues raised by Orville Schell, Director, Center for U.S.- China Relations could be considerably helped by using the modern metric system to improve efficiencies and to reduce costs, but the metric system component is hidden within the rhetoric. You might recall that I wrote about this in an article called, 'A metrication elephant' that you can find at http://www.metricationmatters.com/docs/AMetricationElephant.pdf where the science and technology organisations in the USA were able to write a submission to the presidential candidates without mentioning the parlous state of almost all measurements in the USA.

Cheers,
