Dear All,

It seems that the French revolution might have been been influenced by a volcanic eruption. See http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/apr/15/iceland-volcano-weather-french-revolution

The ash and dust from the volcano caused huge farming losses and widespread food shortages across France leading to starvation among the peasants but not shared by the Comtes and Marquis who were routinely cheating food from their peasants using false measures such as the overlarge bushels for collecting grain. In turn this led to the popular revolutionary cry: 'One king, one law, and one measure' (Un roi, une loi, et une mesure).

Cheers,
