Male, Los AngelesAbout Me:
It's easy to view the world through an automotive prism. On the auto beat for USA TODAY since 2005, I admire, ponder and write about cars and interview those who make a living from them. I've toured auto plants in Michigan and Indiana, witnessed Honda test crashing a minivan and compact car in Japan and hightailed around a banked oval in a Ferrari F430.
Those adventures are in keeping with my upbringing in the motoring culture of Southern California. True to form, I grew up in a tract house behind a drive-in movie theater. My first car was a battered yellow Ford Mustang convertible with the 289-cubic-inch V-8. It was handed down from my droptop-loving father when it had 151,000 miles on the odometer. Next came an aging VW Beetle.
Today, my driving time is split between a Honda Accord and a Dodge Durango -- plus a Toyota beater for crawling through L.A.'s horrible traffic. While stewing in a jam on the 405, I ponder all the marvelous creations that others drive in an area where your wheels -- not your job or college degree -- define your personality. I'm a lifetime journalist who knows a little about a lot of things and loves to chat with those who know a lot more -- people like you -- especially when the subject is automobiles. I've worked at USA TODAY since 1997. In recent years, I have written extensively about hybrids, diesels and other alternative powerplant technologies. I also penned a piece on flying cars. (Verdict: Don't hold your breath). I may have three cars, but find it's more fun and better exercise to commute to work on a bike.Top News interests: CarsTop Money interests: Automotive industryTop Travel spots and interests: bicycling; sailingTop Tech gadgets and interests: blackberry; twitter; facebook Chris Woodyard's PageHmm. I saw the author's name listed twice on the page. How is it you missed it? Obviously with a name like WoodYARD one can see why the guy is anti-metric.[USMA:47648] RE: Metric motors in the USA

Thu, 10 Jun 2010 09:12:25 -0700That is about the dumbest "article" I have ever read. The guy obviously isn't a "car guy"....and actually, it's so embarrassing that the author didn't even put their name beside it.Trollish garbage if you ask me, and the comments section speaks volumes.
