I feel this thread has stepped over the line of proper conversation regarding the metrication of the U.S. and regarding the metric system itself.

Naturally, the issue of metrication is political. That is one path to its accomplishment. But perhaps we should confine ourselves to whether a named politician has spoken out for or against metrication or not at all -- and how we might persuade that politician to push for a metric U.S., which would be to the benefit of ALL Americans. We certainly can confine ourselves to objective statements while doing so.

Can we omit the generic labeling and name-calling at least?

I was going to post some pithy comments along the same lines.

Anyway, I share your skepticism, especially regarding Rupert Murdoch and the
professional ignoramuses (ignorami?) on Faux News.

Which will be first to actively promote metrication:

Rupert Murdoch (sponsor of Fox channels) on the far right, or

George Soros (sponsor of MSNBC) on the far left, or

CNN (owned by GE? or by ComCast?) in the middle?

Eugene A. Mechtly

ps. The Daily is on Fox Busness at this very moment.

As I speak, Rupert Murdoch is announcing the
creation of The Daily, a subscription news and
entertainment product (99 cents per week, not
available on the Web), for the iPad tablet
device only. iPad has about 15 million followers.
Murdoch harps on the "sophisticated reader." I
sense that metric units are going to flow onto this
audience, and I'll be keeping both eyes on this
thing. I haven't bought an iPad yet, but I probably
will very soon. What is your experience with the
   iPad if you own one?
