I scanned Mr. J's letter and can appreciate the work that went into
it. Without getting really involved in the discussion, however, I would
only point out that if one totally disregards large alternative energy
production installations (e.g., huge desert solar plants, windfarms, &
whatnot), all you have to do is to drive through any residential
subdivision in the U.S. Southwest (Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico,
California) and look at the thousands of roofs without solar panels. If
a majority of them had 2 kW systems (about 20 panels), it would make an
enormous overall difference in electricity production. I have a 4 kW
system with 38 panels, and last month my electric bill was $14 in spite
of the winter weather ( I admit to being away for a while).
