Dear Jon,

In your article, "Jimmy Carter bringing metric burger to La Grange" at
http://www.enctoday.com/news/carter-72489-kfpress-land-press.html you wrote: "…
onto the metric system, others believe it is a waste of time.

You might be interested in how much time can be wasted. In this 2:31 youTube
video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omh8Ito-05M the all-metric Harley
Davidson bike they are working on had the front of the exhaust designed and
built at 180 millimetres with the back at 140 millimetres. What these four men
are trying to answer is the question: "What is the difference between 180 mm
and 140 mm or 180 - 140 = ?"

Questions like this occur in workplaces in the USA every day. I will leave it
to you to calculate the overall cost to the economy of the USA. My estimate is
about 1.3 trillion dollars a year or about the same as the whole of the USA
military budget or a bit less than this year's budget deficit for the whole of
the USA. See http://www.metricationmatters.com/docs/CostOfNonMetrication.pdf
