CARSON CITY, Nev. — Senators voted unanimously Monday to put the state's Advisory Council of the Metric System to bed.

The council was launched in 1981 as part of the national changeover from feet and inches to meters and centimeters that never happened.
Donald William of the Legislative Council Bureau noted at the May 5 hearing before the Senate Natural Resources Committee that the council had not been active since 1985. He also noted Nevada and South Carolina were the only states that still had these advisory councils in place.
Sen. John Lee of North Las Vegas asked Williams at the May 5 meeting to thank the council chair for waiting so long to be called into service.
The bill will now be forwarded to the governor.
