I have just started reading the novel _Three Seconds_ by Anders Roslund
and Börge Hellström (2009), translated by Kari Dickson (2010); published
by Silver Oak (Sterling Publishing Co.) if New York. It's a story about
an attempt to establish a drug market in Sweden by some Polish "mafia".
(Amazingly, I can even understand some of the Polish dialog, through
cognates to Russian; but the book is otherwise all in English.)
The original Swedish text was undoubtedly all-metric but it's a pleasant
surprise to see that the translator did not convert any of the units of
measurement I've come across so far. Kilograms ("kilo"), liters,
kilometers, meters, and (Pat Naughtin's favorite) centimeters abound.
(Sorry, Pat, I haven't encountered a millimeter yet, but one might pop
up later on.)
This book just arrived at a library we frequent in a neighboring county
and my wife plucked it off the New Books shelf. So, if you want to cozy
up to an all-metric thriller, look for this one!
