I purchased a 16 GB thumbdrive this afternoon. After I plugged it into a USB port, I checked my "Computer" window and it told me it was a "14.9 GB" drive. Sure enough
        14.9E9 * (1024)^3 = 16.0E9
and the "Computer" window should have told me I had a 14.9 GiB drive.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, quite nicely points out the distinction between SI prefixes and prefixes for binary multiples.
