Dear Robin, What a great article for "Metric Views" at http://metricviews.org.uk/2011/06/can-the-economy-survive-without-a-national-measurement-system
I hope you don't mind that I have shared this with the USMA maillist. I believe that this article deserves as wide an audience as it can possibly get. By the way, have you sent copies of this article to the three speakers who addressed the conference? Sadly, I have noticed that some, perhaps many, scientists and engineers dumb down the metric system units they use every day to grovel either to the journalist who is interviewing them or in some mistaken belief that they need to grovel to the public. This truly odd behaviour shows that the scientists and engineers do not really have a measurement policy of their own.
