AFP writes a clear story with primary metric and sensibly rounded Customary in
parentheses.

Meanwhile AP and the Washington Post convert this way and that until the beach
where the penguin was found has moved 200 km and the poor bird has shrunk by
0.35 m. (It should be noted that a 3 ft bird is nearer 91 cm than 80, but
numeracy isn't AP's strong suit.)

As usual, if measurement is important to the story, ignore AP coverage and look
for an AFP article.
