Whole story here:

Absurd loss of "teaching moment":
-----------------------------------------------
Dubbed “Edith,” the model is on a scale of one-eighth inch to the foot, or
196th the size of the actual building.

A challenge for the students was changing all the metric measurements in the
drawings to inches and feet. Brunner said federal law mandates that federal
construction projects use the metric system, in a so-far-unsuccessful effort to
encourage the country to convert.

The students said that if they had it do over again, they would have just used
the metric measurements.
--------------------------------------------

It would have been a LOT easier at 1:200 scale (in metric) and the kids would
have learned something about both Federal construction and the world.
Brickbats to the teacher.
