Metric tapes are made but are basically impossible to find at stores. You can find them on eBay (good brands like Stanley) or you can look for specialty tool stores online (not "big box" online sites like Lowe's or Home Depot). You might try Sear's; their Craftsman line has a good selection of metric tools, especially wrenches. I'm not sure about tapes though. If you want long metric tapes 50 m, 100 m, check surveying supply stores, track and field stores, etc. While the SAE is mostly metric, to big box hardware stores, SAE means feet and inches.
