If you have never watched it, "Rookie Blue" is a Canadian-produced "cop show" that ABC uses as summer filler. It is filmed in Toronto. They avoid explicit references to Toronto or Canada (although they use some real street names), but those familiar with the Toronto skyline will recognize it. The implication is that it is a generic large US city, and they act and dress more like US cops whereas "Flashpoint" (CBS summer filler) is more explicitly Canadian. In the August 16 episode (you can watch online at ABC), part of the episode was set in the truck yard of a warehouse complex. An internal "10 km/h" speed limit sign was prominent in two scenes. I knew it was Toronto, but given that they avoid explicit references, it was a "Whoa, Toto, we're not in Kansas any more" moment. I wonder if other US viewers noticed and were surprised.
