All European aircraft are manufactured according to metric specification -
the big projects are multi-national, for example the Airbus 380 (the
double-decker long-haul aircraft that seats over 500 passengers in normal
configuration and over 800 in a all-economy class configuration).

Here is a copy of a Dassault (French aircraft manufacturer) maintenance
procedure that shows a 2 mm shim installation, no translation necessary for
this procedure given to US maintenance technicians. Also shows how Dassault
is 100% metric, not surprising for a French company.

One of our maintenance techs even described to me the tread depth required
before removal of the tire, he said "if its less than 4 mm, we have to
replace the tire".
