The White House has just changed the threshold for petitions to 100 000.
Argh!

I only mentioned the response to the Texas petition because the
Administration did indeed respond to a petition that reached the 25,000
threshold. I prefer to remain living in the U.S., thank you (grin).
(BTW, we are at almost 32,000 today, with two weeks still to go on the
signature period).

True, it has to start in Congress.
But imagine the effect of the President incorporating the topic of
metrication in a State of the Union address.

I can't imagine the government letting Texas go with only 25 000
votes. The population of Texas is 25 000 000, so that represents
only 0.1 % of the population that signed the petition.
I can't imagine what will happen with the metric petition when 30
000 out of 300 000 000 is 0.01 %, a much worse percentage.
I think you would have a better chance of getting some action on the
petition if you requested an audience with the president and were to
present the petition results yourself, in person, along with select
representatives of US companies that have already made the switch.
But, in reality, is the white house really the right place to go
to? It is Congress we need to convince to bring about metrication,
not the president. He has no power to effect a change.
Isn't there someone in Congress that supports metrication enough to
possibly initiate a hearing where they could hear testimony from
companies that went metric and what good it did for them? They
could also investigate the cost to the country of not metricating.
It is Congress we need to convince to bring about metrication, not
the president. He has no power to effect a change.

The White House just rejected a "We The People" Texas secession petition,
responding to the 25,000 action threshold.
Good--so I can still enjoy •US* metrication when it comrs!
